A historic victory at the MCG, back-to-back wins for the first time, Gary Ablett’s 250th and a host of 50-game milestones from the Club’s inaugural player intake were just a handful of memorable moments that surfaced during the Gold Coast SUNS breakthrough Premiership campaign this year.

On the eve of the team’s final match, goldcoastfc.com.au thought we’d hear from some of your favourite GC SUNS players on what their most memorable moment was for 2013.

Making his debut, in front almost 14,000 screaming GC SUNS fans at Metricon Stadium, Jaeger O’Meara said running out alongside his Gold Coast team mates for the first time was an early career highlight.

“One of my favourite memories for this season was playing my debut match against St. Kilda, our season opener,” he said.

“Watching Gary (Ablett) lift us to victory in the final quarter was incredible and certainly was a great way to notch my first win.”

Sharing the stage alongside O’Meara, veteran Tom Murphy made his first appearance in the Club guernsey after eight years as a Hawk.

“It was a special moment running out with the boys and certainly a match I’ll look back on at the end of my career.”

For Campbell Brown and Danny Stanley, it was hard to go past the team’s 7-point win over Collingwood – marking the first time the Club had beaten a top eight team.

“My favourite memory of this season was our win against the Magpies in Round 17,” said Brown.

“Those around the competition didn’t give us much of a chance and the way we rallied as a team really spoke volumes of the playing group.”

The win was slightly sweeter for Stanley, who finally got one over his former AFL club.

“Being an ex-Magpie player, it was good to finally the win,” he said.

With nearly 140,000 Gold Coasters having flooded through the Gates of Metricon Stadium over the 2013 Premiership Season, the club is on track to surpassing last year’s total home-crowd attendance of 150,100.

Brown, thankful for the tremendous support, encouraged the Gold Coast to come out and cheer their team to victory when they take on Greater Western Sydney in their final match this Sunday.

“There’s no doubt the Giants are going to come out hungry for victory to send Kevin Sheedy off with a win in his final match as senior coach, so hopefully all our supporters come out for the Round 23 clash.”
