PROMISING key-position player Clay Cameron will undergo hip surgery tomorrow ensuring the teenager is fit and ready for the start of the SUNS’ 2014 pre-season campaign.

Taken with the club’s first zone priority pick in the 2011 AFL National Draft, Cameron has impressed the GC SUNS coaches despite battling hip issues for the majority of the 2013 campaign.

The Gold Coast SUNS high performance team, in consultation with the club’s medical staff, have determined the surgery is the best course of action for the 18-year-old utility.

GC SUNS High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt updated goldcoastfc.com.au on Cameron’s surgery.

“Clay has had a solid season and done a lot of work but unfortunately he has had some hip issues over the journey,” he said.

“The decision was made that now was the right time to have surgery, given its going to be quite a lengthy recovery period.

“We are confident Clay will have plenty of time to be ready for the start of pre-season training.”
