Kyal Horsely Leading Achiever - Arizona Day 1
Day 1 of the Gold Coast SUNS 2XU High Performance Training Camp in Arizona is over, with the players put through a light running and gym session at the Northern Arizona University Dome.
Recently elevated rookie Kyal Horsely said Day 1 was mostly about getting over their jetlag, and things will really get moving on Day 2.
"We have travelled for roughly 26 hours so it was more about just getting the boys legs moving and the hearts pumping," said Horsely.
"I have talked to the guys who went last year, and they have said that the camp starts off quite slow, but thenreally picks up after that."
“So it's full steam ahead from here, with some pretty gruelling sessions from here on in.”
It is Horsely's first experience at altitude training, and he says he could already feel the difference to training at sea level.
"My throat got pretty sore just after a bit of light running," he said.
“Once you put in the big effort, it is hard to regain your oxygen and the heart rate obviously picks up from there.”
Kyal is keen to get as much benefit as he can at altitude, and it keeps with his philosophy on training in general.
"I set myself before I came here to run with Joel Wilkinson, who is the best runner at the club, and stick with him for as long as I can," he said.
“I have always trained with the mentality that if you always push yourself to your hardest, you will get fitter quicker.”
