CLAY Cameron is progressing well from hip surgery according to Head Fitness Coach Paul Haines.

The developing key position player went under the knife earlier this month to repair lingering hip complaints that have largely impacted his first AFL season.

In consultation with the Club's medical experts, the High Performance team determined that ending Cameron's season prematurely would give him the best chance to ensure he returned from the post-season break ready to take on his first full pre-season.

"Clay had a hip operation and while we are taking our time with his rehabilitation to ensure he recovers well from surgery he is walking and has recovered relatively quick," Haines said.

Haines said Cameron's ability to stick to his rehabilitation program during his time away from SUNS HQ at season's end would be key to his recovery.

“Clay's off-season is going to crucial now to make sure he catches up with the rest of the main training group," he said.

"But we'll keep a pretty close eye on him during the pre-season and make sure he ticks off all the boxes."
