New recruit Timmy Sumner is set to run wild in his first NEAFL appearance for 2013 after watching on from the sidelines during the opening rounds of the season.

The lightning-quick 18-year-old will return to the football action against the Redland Bombers tomorrow afternoon after serving a three week suspension carried over from the SANFL for a head-high contact against an opposition player.

After a string of impressive performances throughout the pre-season, Gold Coast SUNS reserves coach Shaun Hart said Sumner’s inclusion would give the NEAFL side a great boost of confidence leading into their crucial match against the slow-starting Bombers who have recorded consecutive losses since their season opener against Mt. Gravatt last month.

“Certainly looking forward to his return, he’s got lots of speed and plays the game at such a fast pace so it’ll be exciting for the local crowd to see that’s for sure,” said Hart.

While the former SANFL star is fully equipped at winning his own ball and taking contested marks at ground level and in the air, Hart said it was the medium forward’s ability to play on both small and tall opposition targets that him such a dangerous forward around the goal square.

“He can really launched into a contest, quick on the ground, chase and tackle, and finish at goal – so we’ll be looking to see what he can do on the ground tomorrow and of course in the air as well,” Hart said.

Towering forward Tom Lynch is expected to receive plenty of attention from the NEAFL rival after kicking a bag full of goals against the Lion’s reserves last week, while ruckman Daniel Gorringe is also expected shift in the forward line and provide strong leads for his teammates during stages throughout the contest.

Emerging defender Jackson Allen will inject depth and experience through the centre circle for the GC SUNS seconds, and will be looking to impress against Redland after tasting senior footy in QCLASH 5 against the Brisbane Lions.
