A record walk up crowd of 2,020 AFL fans swamped the Metricon Stadium ticket turnstiles ahead of last night's NAB Cup triangular series matches between the Gold Coast SUNS, Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions.

The final crowd figure of 7,847 significantly exceeded AFL expectations for the match and regrettably resulted in a number of delays for a number of GCSUNS Members and fans who hadn't purchased their tickets prior to arriving at the Stadium.

Thanks to the efforts of Metricon stadium staff who worked frantically to process those waiting to enter the venue, all attending the match were able to watch as the GC SUNS registered their first win of the NAB Cup competition, Luke Russell securing a one point win for the home side with a kick after the final siren.

While the NAB CUP is an AFL controlled and run event, the popularity of the contest and growing popularity of the code across the region reinforces the importance for Gold Coast fans to secure their seat through a 2013 club membership to ensure there are no delays on match days.
