Four players have been nominated by clubs under the provisions of the Father-Son and Academy Rules
Luke McDonald (Werribee), has been nominated by North Melbourne under the Father-Son rule. McDonald is the son of Donald who played 155 games for North Melbourne between 1982-92.
McDonald is rated as a top 10 selection at Novembers Draft. With the Gold Coast SUNS holding selection five. The GC SUNS will need to determine if the club would use their first selection to bid for McDonald.
Meanwhile, Johnathan Freeman (Brisbane Lions Academy) has been nominated under the provisions of the Club Academies Rule.
The bidding meeting for nominated players will held at 10am Monday 7 October 2013, immediately before the commencement of the Gillette AFL Exchange (Trade) Period.
Each other club in the competition has the option to bid, in reverse ladder order, for the nominated players. If a bid is made, the Club that nominated the Father-Son or Academy player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on the player. If a Club nominating the Father-Son player declines to match the selection nominated, the Club with the successful bid must use that selection at the NAB AFL Draft to select the player.
Any Club that makes a successful bid on a father-son selection is bound to the selection they nominate. If no bid is made by another Club, the Club that nominated the Father-Son eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the NAB AFL Draft to select the player.
Please note that the compensation selections that have been activated by the Clubs for the upcoming 2013 NAB AFL Draft are not part of the bidding process.
The AFL also advised today that an additional two players had been nominated under the provisions of the Father-Son Rookie Pre-Selection Rule:
Jake Kelly (Oakleigh Chargers), nominated by Collingwood FC, son of Craig, 122 games 1989-96.
Ryan Lester-Smith (East Fremantle), nominated by Fremantle FC, son of Neil, 154 games 1983 and 1985-93.
