DAVID Swallow remains chance to return to the team this weeks after failing to overcome a knee injury last weekend.
2010’s number one draft pick injured his knee against Richmond in the side’s North Queensland showdown at Cazaly’s Stadium, and was a costly absentee against the Magpies despite the Gold Coasters still running away as seven-point victors.
GC SUNS General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft told goldcoastfc.com.au Swallow would be among a number of Gold Coasters considered for this weekend’s Round 18 clash against the Blues.
“David has been progressing well in his rehab since injuring his knee last week and we will give him every opportunity to be fit for this weeks game.”
Karmichael Hunt is expected to be on the sidelines for the next couple weeks, after aggravating his calf injury during the lead-up to last weekend’s thriller against Collingwood.
High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt updated goldcoastfc.com.au on the extent of Hunt’s injury.
“Karmichael got a corked calf a couple of weeks ago and played with it which unfortunately has developed a strain,” he said.
“He is probably two weeks away from resuming back to football.”
In better news Jesse Lonergan is a chance to return football, most likely through the NEAFL, as he looks to begin regain his spot in the senior team.
The GC SUNS are also hopeful that Rory Thompson will be fit and ready to take his place in the backline against Carlton on Saturday. Thompson rolled his ankle during the third quarter of Saturday’s match against the Pies, he managed to return to the field to play out the game, but the SUNS will keep a close eye on him this week.
