The NEAFL SUNS’ 94-point loss to Broadbeach on Saturday was a forgettable afternoon for Shaun Hart’s playing group, as the Cats extinguished the possibility of any finals campaign.
It was a disappointing finish to what has been a solid 2013 for the Gold Coast SUNS NEAFL team, with the side’s 10-7 win-loss record having had them placed fourth in the Eastern Conference Premiership Ladder this morning.
But with Morningside recording a whopping 123-point victory over Labrador this afternoon, and Redland securing their ticket to the finals with a 13-point win over Southport, the SUNS fall to the dreaded sixth position.
Shaun Hart, who has done a fantastic job in mentoring the likes of Andrew Boston, Jackson Allen, Timmy Sumner and Jack Hutchins towards senior appearances this season, said today’s undermanned roster showed on the scoreboard.
“We struggled to get our hands on the football and they were far cleaner with their disposals,” Hart said.
“We had nine-listed players and thirteen top up's. We had an undermanned team and they made the most of it.”
On face value, it’s hard to find positives from a 94-point defeat, but the effort and glimpse shown by project defender Henry Schade was pleasing to watch.
“Henry Schade did an outstanding job in defence, and really showed his development as a key defender.”
