The Gold Coast SUNS are less than 500 members off passing the all-time membership record of 14,131, which was set in the club’s inaugural season (2011).
SUNS CEO Mark Evans said the fact people are signing up during the COVID-19 pandemic was an incredible show of support.
“We are on track to achieve a new club membership record which would be a tremendous result for our club,” he said.
“Our supporter base is growing, Gold Coast locals are getting behind this club and there is a real sense of positivity around the SUNS.
“Our supporters are enjoying the exciting, hard-running football they are seeing from our young, talented team. They can see the future is bright and want to be part of it.
“I want to thank our members and corporate partners for backing the SUNS – they are just so important to this club and we truly appreciate it.”
Evans said the combination of a strong start to the season, Rising Star nominations and the recruitment of experienced talent from other AFL clubs had been embraced by fans.
“We have a great mix of players and they are enjoying the fact people are signing up as members and getting behind them,” he said.
“The players are actually competing against each other to see who can sign up the most members and Nick Holman, Alex Sexton, Jarrod Witts and Matt Rowell are currently leading.”
Mr Evans said the SUNS were growing AFL in Queensland and called on any footy fan to show support for the club by signing up for a $39 Shout-out membership”
“With crowds returning to games at Metricon, the best way to access tickets, or even just support our cub, is to become a SUNS member – there is option for everyone,” he said.
