The Gold Coast SUNS have come together with AFL Queensland on the Gold Coast, to encourage students with a Multicultural background, to give AFL a go.
For many of these students it is their first exposure to the game of AFL, the Gold Coast SUNS and the introductory Auskick program.
The program co ordinated by AFL Queensland and has been funded by Queensland Government, has been run in the North Gold Coast Region (at Upper Coomera State College), which is also one of the three charity pillars the Gold Coast SUNS supports, with the work it does in the Community.
Two weeks ago players Brandon Matera (both Italian and Indigenous background) and Tom Nicholls (Fijian background), headed out to Upper Coomera State College, where the program is being run, to provide some tips and encouragement to those participating, many for the first time.
Close to 70 participants have taken part in the 8 week program and whilst the player visit will certainly rank as one of the many highlights of the program, today will provide an experience the children will never forget, with every participant getting the opportunity to participate in the half time Auskick grid in front of a large Metricon Stadium crowd.
A big thank you from the Gold Coast SUNS to AFL Queensland, Queensland Government, Upper Coomera State College and the Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast for the great work they have done in pulling this partnership program together and giving these students the opportunity to participate in this exciting new program.
