The day he was drafted, Gold Coast SUNS Aaron Hall pencilled in making the round one team as a major goal, and now he can live that dream.
The 21-year-old Tasmanian will run out for the GC SUNS against Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Saturday after a whirlwind three months at the club.
After training with the SUNS the previous two weeks, Hall was taken by Gold Coast in December's pre-season draft and has made every post a winner since.
He was unleashed in the NAB Cup opening round against Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions and excelled in wet conditions, with his electrifying pace, pressure and goal sense all on show.
"When I got drafted I put a goal down to play round one and I've done all I can up to date and feel really privileged to get a game," Hall said.
"The coaches kept me up to date with how I was travelling which was helpful. I had a hamstring injury after first week of NAB Cup which set me back a few weeks but they just told me to get it right and I'd still be in mix for round one."
Hall returned in the final round of the pre-season against the Sydney Swans and did enough to impress coach Guy McKenna.
Captain Gary Ablett is a Hall fan, and said the former Hobart Tiger had done a fantastic job.
"He's come in, trained just as hard as anyone else and fully deserves his opportunity this week," Ablett said.
"I'm sure he'll go out there and play his role and that's all we expect from him.
"He can do some pretty special stuff but I'm not sure that's what he'll be concentrating on. If he plays his role and does what he needs to for the team then the ball will fall his way and he'll kick a couple of goals for us."
Hall agreed, saying he was more concerned with the defensive side of his game that finding his way on to any highlight reels in his first game.
"I'm going to base my performance on defensive pressure," he said.
"The coaches want me to chase and tackle and we've had a big emphasis on the defensive side of our game this year. Score-against last year was pretty high and we're trying to decrease that, and the defensive side of our game has really been talked about."
In other GC SUNS selection news, Jeremy Taylor has won a spot in the backline following groin surgery last year, while Daniel Gorringe will play full-forward in the absence of suspended Nathan Bock.
