The Gold Coast SUNS are delighted to announce Brisbane Lions midfielder Jared Brennan and Collingwood ruckman Josh Fraser will join the club as its final un-contracted signings.

Brennan, the number three pick in the 2002 AFL National Draft, played 117 AFL games for the Lions. He is a very exciting utility capable of playing in any position on the field from ruck to rover.

Fraser, the number one pick in the 1999 AFL National Draft, has played 200 AFL games for the Magpies and is a former vice captain of the Club.

Brennan and Fraser join six other un-contracted players who have joined the Gold Coast SUNS in recent weeks including Michael Rischitelli, Nathan Bock, Nathan Krakouer, Campbell Brown, Jarrod Harbrow and Gary Ablett.

The Gold Coast SUNS were permitted to sign one un-contracted player from each AFL club as part of the list build provisions granted by the AFL. However, under the rules, a second un-contracted player is eligible to join if the player wishes to move and clubs are in agreement. The Brisbane Lions have agreed to release Brennan to the Gold Coast SUNS.

Brennan grew up in Darwin in a predominantly Rugby League household and represented Northern Territory in Rugby League as a junior before switching to AFL in his early teens.

Gold Coast SUNS Football Manager Marcus Ashcroft said Brennan will bring flexibility, excitement and leadership to his new footballing home.

“Jared’s a naturally gifted attacking player who can play anywhere on the field and having played and worked with him at the Lions I have seen first hand the professional approach he has to his training and football,” he said.

Ashcroft said Fraser was a quality addition to the SUNS’ young list and would provide crucial support for developing SUNS ruckman Zac Smith.

“As a former vice captain of Collingwood and Grand Final player Josh will also be a leader among our young group,” he said.

“With 200 AFL games under his belt he is a valuable pick up for us as we look to build a competitive team for next year. We are very pleased to have been able to secure a mature player of his type and with his level of experience.”

Brennan said he was excited about the move to the GC SUNS.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled about the way things have turned out. I’m really looking forward to a fresh start, and to be able to further my career in Queensland is a real bonus. It’s going to be an exciting time.”

Fraser said the chance to apply his vast on field experience to a leadership role was a terrific opportunity.
“I’ve played a lot of football at a successful club over 11 years and although I still reckon I’ve got plenty to offer as a player, I’m really excited about working with the up and coming guys to try to help them be the best they can be.”

Brennan and Fraser are currently on leave and will join the Gold Coast SUNS for pre-season training later this month.
