Metricon Stadium the home of the Gold Coast SUNS, was inundated this week with close to 400 local primary school students, as they took part in the final week of the first round of the SHINE schools program.
The SHINE schools program, which is a partnership program between the Gold Coast SUNS, GCCC Lifeguards and AFL Queensland will see over 2000 Grade 4 students engage in the program in 2011.
The program gives students from schools all over the Gold Coast, the chance to take part in a range of activities that have include :
- Eating Healthy
- Being active
- Beach safety
- Playing AFL
Students from All Saints, Saint Stephens College and Marymount College attended the carnival day at Metricon stadium in near perfect weather.
The activities on the day included :
- Students touring the brand new stadium facilities, change rooms and interchange area
- Students enjoying the new and exciting AFL Playground area and inflatable’s
- Students participating in modified games of AFL on the Metricon Stadium training oval
Community Programs Manager Corey Bell said “ As a club we are excited to be able to welcome schools from all over the Gold Coast to Metricon Stadium as part of the SHINE schools program"
“The day provides students with a real in house experience and is a great way to conclude the 4 week program”
The program which is proudly supported by McDonald’s Gold Coast has seen places in the program fill quickly with the program proving very popular with teachers and students in 2011.
