Gold Coast SUNS players Joel Wilkinson and Jeremy Taylor were on hand today at the AFL Queensland Grade 8 School of Excellence competition on the Gold Coast, to see some of the best young players participating within the South East region.
The competition is made up of 6 teams for Division 1 and 6 teams for Division 2 from the South East corner who all have AFL as part of their program in a School of Excellence program.
For young Gold Coast SUNS player Wilkinson, a product of the Palm Beach Currumbin High School excellence program, it was a chance today to give back to something he was part of not long ago.
Wilkinson said” It was great to come down today and encourage all of the boys participating in the day. Only a few years ago I was at Palm Beach Currumbin (one of the six schools) participating in competition just like today”.
AFL Queensland Schools Co orindator Sarah Hopkins said ”It was great to have the players here in person going round and talking to all of the players throughout the day. The young players got so much out of them being here.”
In terms of results of the day the two Gold Coast Schools dominated the day with Palm Beach Currumbin finishing top and Helensvale finishing second. The two Gold Coast Schools will now play off for the title on the 14th May at Yeronga.
