The first home and away clash between Gary Ablett and his former club Geelong will take place at the rebuilt Gold Coast Stadium in round 10 of the 2011 season.
The much-anticipated contest will be a night game played on Saturday, May 28 and is to be telecast by Channel 10.
It will be a big evening of celebrations for the AFL's 17th club, as the match will also be the SUNS' first at their new home ground.
"It's an amazing result for us," Gold Coast chief executive Travis Auld told afl.com.au.
"The first game here at Carrara was always going to be a historic occasion, but to play Geelong will make it an incredible night for fans of the Gold Coast SUNS.
"And it will be an emotional night for Gary, I'm sure, running out against his old team."
Ablett played 192 games and kicked 262 goals for the Cats after being recruited under the father-son rule in 2001.
After a long running will-he-won't-he saga, the 26-year-old signed a multi-million dollar, five-year deal to join Gold Coast as an uncontracted player in late September.
Geelong received two first-round draft picks as compensation for losing him.
The Cats, who recently named Chris Scott as their new coach, will host the SUNS later in the season on a Saturday afternoon at Skilled Stadium.
The NAB Cup fixture will be released on Tuesday morning. The fixture for the 2011 Toyota AFL Premiership Season will be released on Friday, October 29.
