New Recruit enjoying life under the SUN
Gold Coast SUNS recruit Tom Murphy says despite having to train under warmer and more testing conditions since relocating from Melbourne, the Queensland heat has only added another dimension to his pre-season training.
The former Hawk, who signed with the GC SUNS as a free agent last October, says he is settling into his new home and couldn’t be happier living on the Gold Coast and with his new team mates.
“Yeah I’m enjoying the lifestyle here,” said Murphy.
"I recently found a place in Burleigh heads so hopefully I’ll move in there by the end of the weekend."
Originally from Melbourne, Murphy was drafted by Hawthorn in 2005 where he spent 8 years at the club, many of them alongside new GC SUNS teammate Campbell Brown.
Well regarded for his defensive abilities, Murphy is hoping to bring more of a defensive mindset to the GC SUNS backline as they prepare for the 2013 Premiership campaign.
“There is a whole range of players here who can play in defence at any point in time,” said Murphy.
"Even in the last couple of weeks we have doing drills revolving around team defence, and the team is coming along in leaps and bounds."
The GC SUNS are relying on Murphy’s big game experience to assist with the teams organisational structures on field and provide leadership off it.
