Every match is an opportunity and Gold Coast SUNS small forward Alik Magin is certainly making the most of his chances.

The SUNS goal sneak was at his efficient best on Sunday, kicking two majors as a makeshift Gold Coast side took it to the Premiership favourites for three quarters at the MCG.

While the final 64 point margin flattered the home side, Magin feels that Premiership points aside it was the visitors who took more out of the match.

“To give it a crack for three quarters against a side like Hawthorn is really good we just need to do it week in week out.”

The Hawks their pressure is really good and they really ran away with it in the last quarter. They used the ball really well, they are a good kicking side and we just tried to pressure them for most of the game. There is no questioning Magin has made his mark at the SUNS as a dependable team player who gives his all, every weekend when lacing up the boots for Shaun Hart in the Clubs NEAFL team.

The former Sunshine Coaster selflessly sticking to the team plan, despite coming under increased pressure to perform as the season draws to a close.

“I got my opportunity and I think that I really delivered the best that I could and the boys really played well, gave it a good crack and the boys put in a three quarter effort just dropped off a little in that third quarter.”

“It’s more you play to the team structures and the ball will come to you, so if you stick your structures the ball will come to you and you help the team that way.”

Asked if being out of contract at seasons end was a distraction?
Just got to do what I can each week and do the best I can to give myself the best opportunity to be here next year. There is no doubting the kid with the wild hair is a Metricon Stadium fan favourite and if he has his way, Alik Magin will continue to rise with the SUNS in 2013.
