Gold Coast SUNS CEO Travis Auld has revealed the SUNS will establish a coterie group for their female supporters after the club's inaugural Ladies Lunch was a smashing success.

The Ladies Lunch will now be an annual event at Metricon Stadium after the SUNS received overwhelming the interest from the Gold Coast's footy loving females.

Auld made the revelation there would soon be an all women's supporter's group after the SUNS had their best ever turn-out for a function on Wednesday.

The SUNS sold-out the luncheon, timed to celebrate the AFL's Women's Round, within three days of tickets going on sale.

In they end they had a waiting list of about 40 people that could not get a ticket because they simply could not fit another single seat into the packed room.

More than 260 crammed into the Chairman's Room at Metricon Stadium - the biggest crowd ever in the room.

The lunch, hosted by SUNS ruckman Josh Fraser and SUNS TV hostess Jess Skarratt, was branded a smashing success by Auld.

"We were delighted with the interest,'' Auld said.

And we couldn't be happier with how the day went, we have so many great female fans and about half of our staff are girls so it was really important for us to recognise their contribution to our club.

The AFL celebrates the role of women in our game every year with Women's Round and few club have captured the imagination of the fairer sex as successfully as the SUNS.

38 per cent of the club's members are female, up on the league average of 35 per cent and 50 per cent of their staff are women.

Of the 300 people that work at the club or as Metricon Stadium staff, more than 150 are female.

And more than 94,000 women play Australian Football around the country, 13,000 of those are here in Queensland.
