The Coast’s record is now three wins, two losses and a draw following the nail-biting 9-10 (64) to 8-12 (60) victory. But the win only came after AFL Victoria overturned the result, which initially had Dandenong as one-point victors after the umpires gave the all-clear at the final siren. The scoreboard had the scores level when a Dandenong player marked it 25m on a slight angle after the final siren. He managed a point and his teammates were ecstatic thinking they had won, while the Coast trudged off a shattered lot. But the GCFC coaching staff were right on to it and aware of the goal umpiring indiscretion. Stingrays manager Darren Flanigan agreed to reverse the outcome because the goal umpires signalled, but failed to record, a major to Gold Coast's Matthew Fowler after the three-quarter time siren. The win was a relief for the Gold Coast, who were up by 14 points at the last change. The Stingrays looked to have the legs in the final term and came close to snatching the win. A goal after the siren by the Stingrays player would have meant a one-point win to the visitors. But it wasn’t to be and the Coast prevailed. GCFC’s Alik Magin was best on ground, while Matt Fowler – who booted four goals – and Jack Stanley were also influential. By Nick Smart.
