GC SUNS ruckman Zac Smith has capped an outstanding season with his selection in the Courier Mail Queensland Team of the Year.

The star-studded team was announced at AFL Queensland’s Awards Evening last week.

It’s hard to believe, but just four years ago Smith was dabbling in indoor soccer. A career in AFL football seemed a world away.

How things change.

Now Rockhampton-raised Smith sees his name mentioned in the same breath as some of the game’s best including St Kilda’s Nick Riewoldt and Sam Gilbert, Western Bulldogs’ Jarrod Harbrow, Tom Williams and Mitch Hahn, and Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams.

Smith, who was also selected in the VFL Team of the Year, was the only VFL-level player named.
