The Gold Coast SUNS welcome the Southport Sharks to the team once again in 2013 in their fifth year as Patron Partner of the club.

The 12-year Patron Partnership, which assisted the GC SUNS in successfully lobbying for an AFL licence on the Gold Coast, proudly recognises Southport Sharks’ continued commitment to the Gold Coast community and the further development of AFL in the region.

Through the Patron Partnership, the Southport Sharks provide significant on-going financial contribution to the Gold Coast SUNS as well as contribute to club governance and strategic direction through their position on our board of directors. The Patron Partnership provides a terrific platform for both clubs to develop the sport of Australian Rules football across the region.

GC SUNS senior coach Guy McKenna and captain Gary Ablett met with members of the Southport Sharks football team at Metricon Stadium yesterday to officially welcome the partnership into the 2013 AFL season.

Southport Sharks team captain – Danny Wise, said that the Sharks were looking forward to beginning preparations for the Foxtel Cup competition knowing they had the support of the GC SUNS.

“We’re absolutely stoked that the Sharks and the GC SUNS are continuing with the Patron Partnership,” said Wise.

“It’s been a successful partnership for the Sharks, with many of the Club’s patrons enjoying the association the Sharks has with the GC SUNS.”

As many the Sharks playing group battle fatigue in the latter stages of the season, Wise told goldcoastfc.com.au that having exclusive access to the Club’s facilities greatly improved the player’s recovery sessions.

“A few of the players and I head down to Club’s altitude room every Wednesday to take part in a low-impact circuit training session.”

“The fact that the GC SUNS grant us access to such state-of-the-art facilities definitely gives us that competitive edge over most other regional AFL Clubs.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at the GC SUNS and look forward to enjoying another year at Metricon Stadium through the Patron Partnership.
