Gold Coast SUNS players Karmichael Hunt, Jared Brennan and Jack Hutchins today helped launch the White Christmas Charity Event to be held at Movie World on Sunday December 9.
The 2012 event will be the third year in a row that the Gold Coast SUNS have partnered with Movie World and the Gold Coast Community Fund for the event which provides 3,500 of the neediest Gold Coasters from the Gold Coast SUNS 10 charities and the Gold Coast Community Fund.
Warner Bros. Movie World will be transformed into a spectacular winter wonderland and the GC SUNS 2013 playing list will all be in attendance.
The free charity event, will include the largest light display in Australia featuring over one million twinkling fairy lights, a giant Christmas tree and the country's largest Christmas parade - all under a white snowing sky.
Special guests will also be treated to the new Frosty’s Winter Wonderland live show, unlimited access to rides and attractions, free food and drinks and a photo with Santa. All GC SUNS players will be meeting with guests and signing autographs as well as staring in the parade.
In addition to the White Christmas charity event, a White Christmas Stocking Fund has also been established to raise money for needy Gold Coast families to help them have a happy Christmas in 2012.
Last year the Stocking Fund raised over $60,000 which was distributed to struggling families by key charities nominated by The Gold Coast SUNS and the Gold Coast Community Fund which was established more than a decade ago by leading Business figures to provide a pool of funds to help charities, community organisations and individuals dealing with emergency personal situations.
The White Christmas Charity Event and White Christmas Stocking Fund are a joint partnership between Movie World, the Gold Coast Community Fund, the Gold Coast SUNS, the Gold Coast Bulletin, NBN Television and Gold FM.
Movie World General Manager Dianne Rigg said Village Roadshow Theme Parks was proud to be helping spread a little Christmas cheer to people in need through both the White Christmas charity event and Stocking Fund.
"Village Roadshow Theme Parks has a long history of supporting the Gold Coast community and the vital work done by local charities. For us to be able to be part of that by hosting the White Christmas charity event at Warner Bros. Movie World for the third year running is an absolute pleasure."
"A highlight of the night will be the amazing White Christmas Parade, which will this year feature three giant inflatable floats, a magical snow fall and of course Bugs Bunny dressed in his Christmas best,” she said.
Gold Coast Community Fund spokesman Simon Bennett said the event would brighten Christmas for thousands of needy people including disadvantaged families and the disabled.
"The past two years have been a huge success for both the charity event and Stocking Fund. It has been wonderful to see the kid's faces light up as they enjoyed the falling snow, fairy lights and Christmas parade, and we look forward to bringing the same joy to disadvantaged Gold Coast families this year."
"Many of the families I spoke to last year said it had made their Christmas and without the generosity of the charity partners they would have never dreamed of attending such an event.
“This year we are hoping to raise even more funds through the Stocking Fund by not only involving the Gold Coast Bulletin which has been a fantastic partner since the inaugural event, but also bringing onboard NBN Television and Gold FM who have significant ties to the Gold Coast Community,” he said.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO Travis Auld pleased to be involved in a genuine Community event which has such a positive impact on those invited to attend.
"As a Club it is certainly heart warming to know that through our contribution to the annual White Christmas appeal and our involvement with the Gold Coast Community fund that we are able to make a difference to several thousand of the neediest Gold Coast residents who are experiencing various forms of hardship during what is traditionally the happiest time of the year."
Food and beverage sponsors that have helped make the evening possible include Coca Cola and Streets Ice Creams. Plus, Surfside Buslines is also lending a hand by providing buses to transport hundreds of families to the event.
Help struggling Gold Coasters this Christmas by making a donation to the White Christmas Stocking Fund. One hundred percent of proceeds go directly to those in need within the Gold Coast Community.
Although the special charity event is an invitation-only function, Movie World's White Christmas celebrations will be open to the general public during selected night in December. Visit MovieWorld.com.au for more information.
