Dion Prestia, Rory Thompson and David Swallow are all a chance to return to the senior side against West Coast this weekend.
Prestia and Thompson, both of whom were late withdrawals against the Blues on Saturday, are both expected to board the flight out of Coolangatta later this week after nursing a hamstring and ankle injury respectively.
The 20-year-old Swallow, who has been sidelined for consecutive weeks after injuring his knee against Richmond in Round 16 at Cazaly’s Stadium, will need to be passed fit at Wednesday’s main training sessions – but GC SUNS High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt told goldcoastfc.com.au that he was confident all three players would be medically cleared for the trip west.
“All of them were pretty close to training last week, and might have played had the match been a day or two later,” Schwerdt said.
“So we’re confident that they’ll get through training this week and will be available for the senior team against West Coast.”
An injury cloud remains over ruckman Tom Nicholls, but Schwerdt believes the in-form Gold Coaster a genuine possibility to take the field against the Eagles this Saturday.
“Tom unfortunately sustained a knee injury in the game previous to last week, and stirred that up again on the weekend and couldn’t continue in the match.
“But we think with good management and an easier training week he’s a chance to be available for this week.”
Unfortunately, Jesse Lonergan has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering set-back in his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.
