Three Gold Coast players have polled votes in the AFL Coaches’ Association Champion Player of the Year Award after the Round 8 match against the Western Bulldogs.
Co-captain Jarrod Witts was voted the best SUN afield by the coaches, receiving four votes for his season-high 46 hitouts, three tackles and four clearances.
The SUNS ruckman has now claimed a spot in the top 10, climbing up to ninth position with his votes in Round 8.
Touk Miller was next-best afield, receiving three votes for his 26 disposals, seven tackles and game-high seven clearances.
Key defender Sam Collins rounded out the votes for the SUNS with two for his efforts in the backline, recording 17 disposals (12 contested) at 82% efficiency and four marks.
For the Bulldogs, Jack Macrae was voted best afield with 10 votes while Alex Keath (four), Bailey Smith (three), Hayden Crozier (three) and Caleb Daniel (one) were also recognised.
The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort to an individual player in a season.
