Lynch best as SUNS smash Bombers
Towering forward Tom Lynch looks set for a senior recall against the GWS Giants next week after a best-on-ground performance for the Gold Coast SUNS reserves in their clinical 66-point win over the Redland Bombers at Casheez Park on Saturday afternoon.
The NEAFL team were off to a slow start against the Bombers, failing to make the most of their opportunities inside-50 – trailing by 9-points after the first break.
But it wasn’t long before the GC SUNS reserves were on the attack, kicking 10 goals after the opening term to extend their lead by 50-points, a margin that would prove too great for the East Brisbane team.
After booting five-of-his-six goals in the second term, Lynch told goldcoastfc.com.au it was great to be finding form in his third NEAFL game back after his 2013 campaign was hampered by an ankle injury sustained in the NAB Cup opener against the Brisbane Lions.
“It was really good to get a few touches today and get the win for the boys,” said Lynch.
“I had a good second quarter against the Bombers today and hopefully I can build on that going forward.”
GC SUNS senior coach Guy McKenna acknowledged Lynch’s inspiring performance in his post-match media conference.
“Tommy kicked six goals and had 14 shots at goal in the reserves game, so that was super impressive for him,” said McKenna.
The NEAFL side will now begin preparations for their historic ANZAC match against the Brisbane Lions reserves in Mackay this Saturday, and will be looking for redemption against their QCLASH rival after the Lions got the better them in their 110-point loss at Metricon Stadium.
