Collingwood star midfielder Dayne Beams will be available to take his place against Gold Coast after he was cleared of striking Carlton’s Ed Curnow following the Magpies’ 15-point win over the Blues on Sunday.
Beams was initially reported during the round 15 contest by a field umpire, but was told he has no case to answer once the incident was assessed by the AFL’s Match Review Panel.
His availability will be a massive boost for Nathan Buckley, with Beams a vital piece to the Magpie’s midfield puzzle, while the Queenslander also showed how dangerous he can be up forward again last night.
The 2012 Copeland medal winner has been in sublime form this year, averaging 28 disposals and amassing 17 goals in 2014.
He has been nothing short of sensational in his previous efforts against the SUNS, averaging 33 touches against the ever-improving expansion team.
Meantime, contact made between Beams’ midfield partner Dane Swan and Carlton’s Dale Thomas in the third quarter of Sunday’s match was reviewed. It was the view of the MRP that the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
