Saturday marks the fulfilment of a lifelong dream for rookie Darcy Macpherson, who will make his AFL debut for the Gold Coast SUNS against Melbourne at Metricon Stadium.
Coach Rodney Eade delivered the good news to the 18-year-old after training on Thursday morning, with Macpherson to become the 84th player to pull on the red and gold guernsey.
Selected with pick No. 21 in last year’s rookie draft, Macpherson has played four games in the NEAFL this season, averaging 24.8 disposals, 5.3 tackles and 5.8 clearances per game.
His most recent performance against the Giants delivered 33 disposals, six tackles, 12 clearances and five inside 50s.
