The Gold Coast SUNS battled hard against a seasoned Carlton outfit but ultimately went down by 60 points at Metricon Stadium.
The SUNS showed promise in the first half of the match, trailing by only two-points at the main break, but couldn’t gain the ascendancy for four quarters, with the Blues running out 13.9 (87) to 4.3 (27) winners and registering an all-time high AFLW score.
Alison Drennan was Gold Coast's best player with 19 disposals, a first quarter goal, and a game high 9 tackles.
She enjoyed good support from promising young SUNS Maddison Levi (one goal) and Lucy Single (one goal) the latter of whom kicked an incredible running goal in the second quarter, showing footy knowledge well beyond her years.
The SUNS defensive unit showed fight while placed under enormous pressure throughout the game but in the end couldn’t withstand the Blues’ drive.
The SUNS will finish the AFLW season with another home game at Metricon Stadium next Friday, which will be held as a double header with the men’s side.
