A career high four goals for key forward Ben King wasn’t enough to get a gallant SUNS outfit over the line in Adelaide.
King has had an impressive start to Season 2021 with 3 goals in each of the first two rounds and backed that up against the Crows on Friday night but said although the effort was there, the team would be chasing further improvement to get over the line in Round 4.
“Proud of the boys for the fight they showed in the game,” King said post game.
“But obviously it wasn’t enough, so we’ll look to get better during the week and have a red-hot crack against Carlton next week.”
King said the team worked hard all night in line with the plan they had in place to beat the Crows.
“We wanted to keep trying to shift the ball and be accountable on defence and really strong in the contest.”
“We did it in patches on Friday night, but it wasn’t for long enough to get the four points.”
Although it was a strong performance from the 20-year-old key forward, he was quick to point out the work of those around him.
“The boys were kicking it really well inside 50 and I was lucky enough to get on the end of a few.”
“The forward line as a whole are growing in synergy every week and we know we have to keep working to ensure we’re playing our role for the team.”
King had a clear message for SUNS members and fans ahead of the sides return to Metricon Stadium in Round 4 against the Blues.
“In front of our home crowd, we’ll be doing everything we can as we prepare this week to get that win for them on the weekend.”
