It’s been a tough road back for Nathan Bock, who’s had to endure a frustrating start to his 11th premiership campaign, the 138-game veteran relentless in his rehabilitation from a serious leg injury which cut short the former All Australian’s 2012 season and has so far kept him from the playing field in 2013.

In this week’s special SUNS Player Feature, the club’s Vice-Captain speaks candidly about his extensive rehabilitation, and the doubts which started to surface as his planned pre-season return to training past and his AFL comeback delayed indefinitely.

“It’s something that always goes through a player’s mind, whether it’s a big injury or a small injury, and obviously you lose a lot of fitness with a long-term injury like mine,” said Bock.

GC SUNS rehabilitation coach – Max Kennedy, who has been embedded with the defender since he first went down with the injury, says Bock’s return to senior football had begun to form a silver lining.

“Bocky’s turned a little bit of a corner, we’re starting to slowly see a bit of progress with him,” said Kennedy.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts to be introduced into some more training drills in the short term”

Despite having spent a considerable amount of time away from the elite level, Bock says he remains committed towards helping the SUNS achieve a historic finals berth this season.

“You just have to continually stay positive and reinforce to yourself the sort of person you are,” Bock said.

“I’m pretty positive that that I should be getting back to playing my best footy.”
