Saturday afternoon’s win against Collingwood at the MCG was reward for effort for the SUNS, after a consistent body of work over the first seven rounds of the season.

Four points at the MCG had only happened on three previous occasions for the SUNS in its eleven seasons, but it was the way the players went about the performance that impressed Senior Coach Stuart Dew the most.

Speaking after the Round 7 win, Dew was quick to outline exactly the task he and the coaching group had outlined for the players.

“We set our lads a challenge to back up the performance from last week,” Dew said.

“I guess not to leave that week behind, but to reset again with the same themes.”

“Not to get bored with the process we went after the previous week.”

When Collingwood cranked up the heat, especially in the third quarter, it was the way in which the SUNS responded that impressed the Senior Coach.

“The highlight is probably the start of the third quarter, I think they were plus 15 contested possessions.”

“And we were using consistent messaging around let’s change momentum.”

“Then I think in the next 10 minutes we went +16 contested possessions and we're able to turn the tide within the game.”

“I think that's for us as coaches, as a coaching group and footy club, that was the really pleasing part.”

For the SUNS young group, it’s about continuing to learn, learning from each experience and then chasing after that improvement that comes from those lessons.

“To be able to change that momentum in quarters is one of the lessons we took out of the Bulldogs game.”

“It just felt mature, we're still young, but I think it shows the belief in how they want to play the game and how we want to play the game.”

“Which is pleasing for us as a footy club.”

The SUNS now have a 3-4 record, as they look to turn their attention to a clash with St Kilda at Metricon Stadium, 2:10pm on Saturday 8^th May.
