Since the resumption of pre-season training five weeks ago, Gold Coast SUNS players have been put through a series of gruelling sessions courtesy of Elite Performance Director Justin Cordy and his high performance team.
Despite this, you can’t wipe the smile from No. 8 draft pick Callum Ah Chee’s face, with the 18-year old still thoroughly enjoying his first pre-season campaign at the top level.
“Yeah it’s been really good,” Ah Chee told reporters at Coolangatta State School to kick off the Gold Coast SUNS 2016 Community Camp.

“Obviously a ramp up (since Christmas) but all the boys are training hard, everyone’s getting excited now games are starting.
“So everyone’s feeling really good and loving every bit of it.”
The SUNS travel to Ah Chee’s home state of Western Australia three times in 2016 with a date against grand finalist West Coast Eagles in Gold Coast’s second NAB Challenge game on Thursday March 3.
The South Fremantle product would love the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of family and friends at HBF Arena in Joondalup, but his primary focus remains on impressing the coaching staff ahead of the season proper with his strong work ethic on the training track.
“It would be nice (to play NAB2) but that’s up to the coaches,” he said.
“At the moment I’m just looking to train hard and improve but it would be nice.”

As for where Ah Chee’s preferred position on the field lies, the high-flying West Australian sees himself primarily as a forward but can play anywhere on the ground depending on the team’s needs.
“Obviously I love to play forward but I’m pretty versatile so I can play at both ends of the ground,” he said.
“It would be good to get some (midfield) exposure but at the moment I’m just looking at training hard and hopefully getting some games and just doing what a first-year player does.”
