Gary Ablett isn’t looking forward to an early morning training session in chilly Melbourne tomorrow, preferring he was on the Gold Coast when the team returns to training.

Ablett this afternoon tweeted, “stuck in melbourne. chilly solo session for me 2morro, not rapt, boys tell me it will be low 20's up on the coast!

Gary is stuck in Melbourne and will be unable to return to the Gold Coast as planned this evening due to the volcanic ash cloud that has suspended flights in and out of Melbourne.

Ablett was scheduled to return to the Gold Coast this evening, prior to the teams first training session since last week's match against Hawthorn in Launceston on Saturday.

Gold Coast SUNS, General Manager - Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said that Ablett would stay in Melbourne until flights were cleared to depart.

"Gary will remain in Melbourne and work with some of our staff based based down there as he continues his preparations for Saturday's match against the Western Bulldogs.

Ashcroft said he believed Ablett would return to the Gold Coast as soon as tomorrow, with the club working to help the star on the first available flight out of Melbourne.

The club has a policy in place that encourages players to spend time with family and friends when the team plays matches in or near their home state where possible.

"As we do with a number of our players, we sat down with Gary over a month ago and planned for him to return to Melbourne if he was cleared fit by our medical team after our game against Hawthorn,"

"Our policy is in place as we believe it is healthy for players and staff to be able to spend time with family and friends throughout the season," Ashcroft said.

Whilst Gary is a marvel on-field, he hasn’t quite worked out how to clear the sky of volcanic ash!

The Gold Coast SUNS last match in Melbourne was against Essendon in Round 6 and the team in not scheduled to return to Victoria until the teams match against Geelong in Round 20.
