The Brisbane Lions have flexed their muscles over the Gold Coast SUNS in QClash20 at Metricon Stadium.
The Lions ran rampant through the middle patch of the game, driving home 14 consecutive goals across the second, third and fourth quarters to run out 19.10 (124) to 7.9 (51) winners.
Brisbane kicked the first three goals of the game before the Suns worked their way back into the contest.
Goals to Josh Corbett and first-game SUN Rory Atkins on the run from outside 50 reduced the margin to six points at the first change.
But Gold Coast dropped off after a feisty first quarter, with skipper David Swallow able to hold his head high.
The SUNS co-captain had 29 disposals, four tackles and five clearances but sorely missed his midfield counterpart Touk Miller who was unavailable due to suspension.
Sam Flanders managed to stem the flow of Brisbane goals in the last term with a cool set-shot finish and kickstarted a four-goal final quarter for the home side, but it was too little, too late.
Brisbane midfielder Jarryd Lyons was judged the best player afield and claimed his first Marcus Ashcroft medal.
