The Gold Coast SUNS congratulate Chairman, Tony Cochrane, on his Queen's Birthday Order of Australia Award for significant service to sports administration and entertainment production.
A SUNS board member since 2014 and Chairman since 2016, Cochrane has been a driving force behind the establishment of the club and the growth of the sport in the Gold Coast and across Queensland.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO, Mark Evans, said the recognition is a great honour for both the club and its Chairman.
“It’s fantastic to see the Chairman of our young club recognised for his significant contribution to sport – we are thrilled for Tony,” he said.
“Tony is as passionate about the SUNS as anyone you will find and he has put his heart and soul into helping build this club up and embedding it in the community.
“He also played a key role both in Queensland saving the 2020 AFL season during COVID and in securing last years’ Grand Final at the Gabba.
“We got to see Tony’s entertainment background on full display too when he and partner Thea Jeanes-Cochrane won the right to run the 2020 Grand Final entertainment which was a great show and a big success.”
Amongst Cochrane’s other achievements in sports administration, he was Executive Chair of the V8 Supercars from 1997-2012 and is a life member, Chair of The Grand Golf Club and was an Advisory Board Member on the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Bid.
In the field of entertainment production, Cochrane run concerts, shows and events have thrilled millions of people around the world and his awards include a Tony for Best Broadway Musical (Hairspray – Producer, 2003), and Arias for The Sound of Music Cast Album (Producer, 2000), The Main Event - The Album (Producer, 1998) and Jesus Christ Superstar - The Album (Producer, 1992).
