Broadbeach junior Andrew Boston today officially joined the Gold Coast SUNS.

Boston, was selected by the GC SUNS as a local zone rookie.

The former Broadbeach Cats player is a graduate of the GC SUNS Talent Academy and has been training with the GC SUNS over the past two weeks.

Jason Torney – GC SUNS Academy Manager, recently told goldcoastfc.com.au that the 18 year old Broadbeach Cats star has been involved with the GC SUNS Academy for a long time, and has had an exceptional year playing through the State U18s competition earning All-Australian selection and the 2012 NEAFL Rising Star Award.

“Everyone has been looking forward to his progress [after going through the academy], so it’s really good that there’s a possibility he’ll be able to continue to develop under the club’s Rookie Program,” said Torney.

While Boston has played a lot of footy through the midfield he has also played behind the ball in the backline at times, and has kicked a number of goals as a small forward when needed.

“He’s done his time trials, his skills are up to AFL Level, so now it’s about making sure he fits the physical requirements needed for senior selection,” Torney said.

Boston is just one of many local athletes who have developed under the GC SUNS academy, which provides pathways, education and training sessions for players from U12s up to the U18s.
