Gold Coast SUNS youngster Sam Day will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2011 season after he had surgery to repair meniscus damage in his right knee.
Gold Coast SUNS General Manager, Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft told goldcoastfc.com.au that Day underwent surgery today.
“Sam underwent surgery today to repair the damage to his knee.
“This type of injury generally sidelines a player for six to eight weeks, and we believe it is in Sam’s best interests to concentrate on his rehabilitation and prepare him self for the 2012 season.
Day has played seven games for the GC SUNS in his first year of AFL football after debuting against the Brisbane Lions in Round 7.
“We have been really impressed with Sam’s first season at AFL level and while it is a disappointing way for him to finish his year, we are really excited about his future with the club,” Ashcroft added.
