The Federal Government has confirmed today it will provide a funding contribution of $36 million to re-develop the Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara.
The funding of the project comes on top of the $60m amount announced by the Queensland Government and $20m contributed by the Gold Coast City Council. The AFL will also contribute to the project and will invest more than $100m into the Gold Coast community.
Today’s announcement was attended by Federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, Federal Sports Minister Kate Ellis and Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke.
"This is the last piece in the stadium funding jigsaw for the Gold Coast Football Club and is another historic day for the Gold Coast. This contribution from all levels of government will create many jobs and economic stimulus for the region at an important time."
And in 2011 a new stadium and a new AFL football team playing out of the Gold Coast will create many long term economic benefits for the local community as well as a high profile marketing platform for our City.
And all this was made possible because of the support received from all levels of the Gold Coast community. From the Mayor and the Councillors to the 42,000 people who pledged support and said they wanted a team, to the local businesses who got behind the bid.
