David Swallow has given the strongest indication yet he will remain a Gold Coast player beyond 2014.
On the same day he was announced a joint vice-captain at the SUNS, the out-of-contract Swallow said he hoped to stay at the club for the next couple of years.
His manager Colin Young said the pair had not discussed Swallow's contract, but was meeting the young SUN on Friday for their regular monthly catch-up.
Young will then meet with Gold Coast list manager Scott Clayton in Melbourne in two weeks to further negotiate Swallow's status.
"There's nothing untoward, there's no contract negotiations, no discussions at this point," Young told AFL.com.au.
"I'm catching up with him Friday and I'll see where he sits."
Swallow however was quite adamant about his future on Wednesday, when he was named alongside Nathan Bock, Michael Rischitelli, Dion Prestia and Tom Lynch as vice-captains behind skipper Gary Ablett.
"I love the boys I play alongside," Swallow said.
"I'm really looking forward to what this year brings and hopefully the next couple of years.
"My manager is talking to the club and hopefully we can work something out."
The 21-year-old midfielder was the No.1 pick in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft and has played 51 games in three seasons.
Swallow has visibly grown in his time at the SUNS, and it was little surprise he was included in the restructured leadership group.
Although quietly spoken off the field – much like Prestia and Lynch – he has become far more vocal on the field and amongs his teammates.
"After a while I started to speak out a bit more and I just continued to do that a bit more over the (last) year," he said.
"Seeing where the group's developing and where it's at, it's (leadership) something I aspired to."
