It appears Gary’s talents aren’t just confined to the football field, with Australian musician and best friend Michael Paytner outing the Gold Coast captain as a “closet rapper”.
On his Twitter profile, Ablett joking says “I think I can move like Chris Brown and sing like Usher! But really I’m just another guy that looks like Bruce Willis!”
But the dual Brownlow Medallist is just as impressive behind the microphone as he is with Sherrin in hand according to Paytner, revealing Ablett has a strong singing voice.
"Gary loves to rap," Paynter told News Limited.
"He's big into hip hop. He loves this Gospel rapper called Lecrae, who is huge in the States.
“He chucks that album on the way to the gym, spins his cap around, puts the window down and raps along with it. I've never seen someone, apart from an actual rapper, rap with as much conviction as he does."
Since first meeting after a Geelong game at the MCG in 2007, Paytner and Ablett have gone on to become great friends.
"Gary's been a huge inspiration to me in terms of working hard and being really good at what he does," Paynter said.
"Sometimes in music you don't want to look like you're big-noting yourself, especially in Australia, you don't want to be seen running around going `I'm good'.
“But with Gaz, he's just really confident in what he's good at and that's what makes him good. He was really encouraging to me when I was on The Voice, he'd say `Just do what you do and do it as good as you can'."
