The final Gold Coast SUNS Under 18 Academy squad (list of 25 players) to play 2 practice matches against Brisbane Lions Under 18 Academy over the next two weekends has been announced.
In announcing the squad, Gold Coast SUNS Academy Manager Andrew Johnston said “Selection in the squad was the culmination of 5 months of hard work with players from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton joining the players from the Gold Coast SUNS metropolitan region to form the SUNS Academy Under 18 team.
Johnston paid particular thanks to all the Gold Coast SUNS Country Academy staff who have nurtured the country players in the pre season program, getting them ready for these two most important trial games, that will decide which boys move on to Queensland Scorpions State selection.
The team will be Coached by Gold Coast SUNS Academy Coach, former Richmond and Adelaide Crows player, Jason Torney.
Of the 25 players selected, 11 boys have originated from Country Academy regions with the remaining 14 players from Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales.
The first of the Queensland Scorpions trial games between the Gold Coast SUNS and the Brisbane Lions Academies will be played this Sunday 25 March 1.30 pm at Yeronga and the second and final trial will be played Saturday 31 March 1.30 pm at Fankhauser Reserve Southport FG.
