Gold Coast had a clean bill of health after Saturday’s game against Carlton, but unfortunately there was a setback for Sean Lemmens in the NEAFL practice match.

General Manager – Football Operations, Jon Haines, told the Alpha Sport Injury Update that the forward, who was making his return from a hamstring injury, suffered a fractured hand.

“Unfortunately Sean, in his first game back from his hamstring injury, fractured his hand in a tackle,” Haines said.

“He had surgery on that yesterday and it looks to be a 5-6 week injury at this point in time.

“Really disappointing for Sean. He really flew through his rehab with his hamstring well and attacked it really well.

I’m sure he’ll attack his rehab with his hand injury with the same energy and enthusiasm.”

The NEAFL practice match had a more positive outcome for Harrison Wigg, who made his return from a long-term ankle injury.

“It was great for him to get a game under his belt.

“He got through the game really well, so he’ll play again this week and look forward to starting to build some game time over the next few weeks.”

Jack Leslie was one player who didn’t play over the weekend after suffering a slight calf strain.

Gold Coast staff decided to take a conservative approach with the key defender, however he should be available for selection this weekend.

Callum Ah Chee is also progressing well in his rehab from his hamstring injury suffered during the pre-season.

He’s be in a fairly concentrated rehab program, but he’s showing some great signs.”

“We’d expect that in the next 2-3 weeks that he’ll be available for selection.”
