“Giving our next generation the opportunity to SHINE”
The Gold Coast SUNS today launched its “SHINE” schools program, a new and unique community program that will benefit 3,000 students, all the next generation of Gold Coasters.
The “SHINE” schools program will allow the next generation to “SHINE” and be the best they can be through a three-way partnership with the Gold Coast SUNS, Gold City Council and AFL Queensland.
Each student who participates in the FREE six hour program that is run over a four week period will learn about:
- Healthy
- Active
- Sun smart
- Surf safe
- Play AFL
What makes the “SHINE” program unique is that it will be the first of its kind delivered in three-way partnership.
The Gold Coast SUNS players, GCCC Lifeguards and the AFL Queensland Game Development team will deliver the program through the generous support of McDonald’s Gold Coast.
McDonald's Gold Coast Licensee Jonathon Pitt said the Gold Coast licensees were happy to partner with the Gold Coast SUNS for such a great community program.
“We’re thrilled to be able to help a local sporting initiative like the Gold Coast SUNS Schools Program. McDonald’s is committed to supporting the communities that support us and we encourage children of all abilities to be active and have fun,” Jonathon said.
Each student will receive a colour booklet to use and work through as part of the program and will get to interact with the players in person as they deliver the program before participating in a fun based carnival at Carrara with other schools as a way of celebrating the conclusion of the program.
The program is available from Term 2 – 2011 and will cater for 3000 students a year participate.
