With the AFL Trade Period entering its final days, the rumour mill is heating up with news outlets around the country linking potential moves in and out of the Gold Coast SUNS.
goldcoastfc.com.au will advise fans of any trade as soon as it has been lodged with the AFL, however below is a summary of what media around the country are reporting.
IN’s
Matt Rosa
Perth Now’s Chris Robinson is reporting that Gold Coast has emerged as a strong contender to snare Eagles veteran Matt Rosa.
“They have expressed interest – I’m not sure how strong it is, because we’ve only had very preliminary discussions with (Gold Coast list manager) Scott Clayton,” Eagles Football Manager Craig Vozzo said.
“We have to respect what (Rosa) has requested, but he has to respect as well that he’s a contracted player and we prepared and planned our list around him being on it.”
Jeremy Howe
Melbourne football boss Josh Mahoney revealed late last week that the most attractive deal for Jeremy Howe would involve the Gold Coast SUNS.
The high-flying utility has requested a trade out of AAMI Park and has been linked to a handful of clubs, including the SUNS who he has met with and been presented with a formal offer.
It is understood that Howe nominated Collingwood as his preferred destination, but given Gold Coast’s strong position at the draft table, coupled with the Magpies interest in Adam Treloar and James Aish, the Demons view a trade with Gold Coast as the most lucrative.
Mahoney conceded that an element of the deal with Gold Coast would see the SUNS exchange pick No. 3 for No. 6, amid other elements in a deal that would send the Tasmanian north.
OUT’s
Charlie Dixon
The Age reports St Kilda and Port Adelaide have put forward an option for Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon to be a part of the Jake Carlisle deal.
Reports suggest both players could be involved in a mega-trade to deliver all parties a fair outcome.
In the deal, Port Adelaide would trade its pick 10 and likely a future first-round selection to St Kilda for pick 5. The Saints would hand over pick 10 for Carlisle, and Port would give pick No.5 to the SUNS for Dixon.
Such a deal would give the SUNS picks three and five, as well as No. 16 and 19, at November's NAB AFL Draft.
