Just like the rest of the AFL world, Jaeger O’Meara is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Jack Martin.
“I’m really excited for Jack to come onto the scene,” he said.
“He’s played some really good footy at reserves level this year and he’s going to be really exciting next year.”
Similar to O’Meara, the GC SUNS other teenage sensation has had to bid his time through the NEAFL, too young to play at the top level.
But while O’Meara’s development year was cut short by groin surgery, Martin has been nothing short of sensational, playing double the amount of games in the reserves competition.
Rated among the favourites to take out the Grogan Medal as the NEAFL’s best and fairest, Martin is in the box seat to take the AFL by storm when he bursts on the national stage next year.
In May, GWS senior coach Kevin Sheedy slammed Victorian powerhouses for not having the ticker to trade for O’Meara or Martin – describing the mini-draft picks as having “(Chris) Judd and (Gary) Ablett mould”.
"The proof is in the pudding is they walked out on two superstars,” Sheedy said.
"I think that O'Meara and Martin are going to be in the (Chris) Judd and (Gary) Ablett mould.
"To walk away from them at 17-and-a-half was just foolish."
Despite the considerable amount of hype surrounding his debut, O’Meara is confident his fellow Western Australian future team mate is capable of handling the build-up.
“I think jack will cope with it alright, he is pretty quiet but if he ever needs a hand with the hype of it all he can always come to me or other guys around the Club to have a chat,” O’Meara said.
