Gold Coast have gone down to second-placed West Coast by 92 points on a miserable and wet night at Domain Stadium.
It rained relentlessly for periods as the Eagles cruised to victory, winning 21.9 (135) to 6.7 (43) in front of 26,964 brave fans.
West Coast kicked 12 straight goals in the third term, the highest score of any quarter in the club's history.
"I felt sorry for some our defenders," SUNS coach Rodney Eade said post-match.
"The third quarter was like an air-raid shelter.
"There was just a gulf in experience and a gulf in talent. They were, in age and games played, they were well ahead of us. You could just see they were cleaner with the ball."
Dion Prestia had 27 touches and kicked a goal late while Harley Bennell gathered 23 disposals and kicked 1.2 before sitting out the last quarter with a sore left knee. Touk Miller and Tom Nicholls tried hard.
