Despite taking the top job at Port Adelaide, senior coach Ken Hinkley admits he still finds himself cheering for his former AFL Club and his confident the side's early season success will gain momentum leading closer to the end-of-year Finals campaign.

The Gold Coast SUNS former senior assistant coach fronted reporters alongside Guy McKenna at Metricon Stadium this afternoon, and said it was difficult not to scream and shout at the television screen when watching his former playing group in the heat of battle.

“When we’re not playing against the GC SUNS I’m actually cheering for them quite loudly to keep improving and make their climb up the ladder,” said Hinkley.

After an inspired fourth-quarter chase against St. Kilda, and consecutive performances against Sydney and Brisbane, Hinkley said AFL rivals could no longer dismiss the GC SUNS.

“The results show their clearly improving… (and) at the back end of last year we knew that the club was six goals better here at Metricon Stadium so we’re aware of how well they’re playing up here,” Hinkley said.

“Even against Sydney you could see that they’re right in the contest.”

With the Power full of confidence after overcoming a 31-point deficient Adelaide last weekend to extend their winning streak to 3-0, McKenna said the in-form South Australina powerhouse would be great test for the home-side.

“They’re in the Top 4 of the AFL ladder so we’re under no illusion how tough this game is going to be tomorrow night,” said McKenna.

“They’re probably a lot tougher knowing that Kenny has taken over and got them playing the standard of football they are so it’s going to be a great challenge for our boys.”
