It’s the Round 19 edition of the Gold Coast SUNS weekly Club Champion countdown and making the top 5 this week.

Steven May heads the countdown for the first time in 2013, after the versatile utility performed a superb shut-down role on Eagles spearhead Jack Darling – keeping the dangerous forward to just 13 disposals, four marks and no goals before switching to restrict the influence of Coleman Medal favourite Josh Kennedy.

Dion Prestia was another top 5 performer, leading the SUNS in a series of chases during the first-half, the inside on-baller working himself into every nearby contest, finishing with a game-high 28 disposals, six clearances and five stoppages to his name.

There’s very little that needs to be said about Harley Bennell, the star Gold Coaster returning to form in front of fans and family at Patersons Stadium, Bennell showcasing his polish and class with 27 touches, six marks, five clearances and two goals for the afternoon.

Alex Sexton emerged as a likely hero for the GC SUNS as the visitors staged a fourth quarter revival, the former AIS student slotting a team best 3 goals in a performance likely to see the talented Queenslander earn more opportunities at First Grade level.

David Swallow finished with a handy 21 disposals, four clearances and six inside-50s, after missing consecutive matches with a knee injury, providing plenty of forward-50 opportunities for his goal-kicking team mates.

The Club Champion points tally is now being kept under wraps until the Club Champion Awards night at Southport Sharks on the 6th of September.
