Looking to make a conscientious effort on improving in all areas of the football field this year, the Gold Coast SUNS have incorporated a Body Awareness program to the club’s pre-season program.

Despite being recognised as a “gymnastics” program, the basis of Body Awareness is to educate the playing group on how best to get out of congested positions without  injury.

In addition, the program also aims to increase the player’s core stability – with GC SUNS instructor Russell Butler telling goldcoastfc.com.au that a stronger core and lower centre of gravity means players are able to hold their ground better.

“One of the things you always hear from AFL commentators is the player’s ability to stay on their feet.

“So what this program is designed to do is show them how they can get back on their feet as quickly as possible injury-free.”

SUNS TV went behind the scenes to capture the players completing a Body Awareness session.
